Exciting news for Atelier fans! Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & The White Guardian, the upcoming console and PC title, will notably not include a gacha system, a significant departure from its mobile predecessor. Let's delve into the details.
Atelier Resleriana's Console Spinoff: A Gacha-Free Experience
Ditching the Gacha
Koei Tecmo Europe announced on November 26, 2024 via Twitter (X) that Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & The White Guardian will forgo the gacha mechanics present in its mobile counterpart, Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator. This means players won't be pressured into in-app purchases to progress or unlock characters. The game will be fully playable offline.
The official website highlights "New protagonists and an original story await in Lantarna," confirming a shared world but independent narrative and characters from the mobile game. The game is slated for release on PS5, PS4, Switch, and Steam in 2025. Pricing and a precise release date are yet to be revealed.
A Look Back at the Mobile Gacha System
Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator, the mobile foundation for this new title, utilizes a gacha system within its traditional Atelier formula of synthesis and turn-based combat. This system, however, drew criticism from some players due to its cost.
The gacha employs a "spark" system, awarding medals with each pull towards unlocking characters or Memoria (illustration cards). Unlike a pity system, there's no guaranteed drop after a specific number of pulls. Released in January 2024 on Steam, Android, and iOS, the mobile game received mixed reviews on Steam, contrasting with generally positive ratings on mobile app stores. The gacha mechanic's cost was a significant point of contention for some Steam users.
