Will Wright, the visionary behind The Sims, recently unveiled more details about his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream. This innovative title, first hinted at in 2018, is finally taking shape, with Gallium Studio offering a glimpse into its unique mechanics. Let's delve into what makes Proxi so special.
A Deeply Personal Gaming Experience
The livestream, hosted by BreakthroughT1D (a leading organization dedicated to Type 1 diabetes research), provided a platform for Wright to discuss Proxi's core concept: an AI life sim built directly from your memories. Players input personal memories as text, and the game transforms them into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable, allowing players to refine the visual representation of their recollections using in-game assets.
Each memory, termed a "mem," enhances the game's AI and populates the player's "mind world"—a navigable 3D environment composed of hexagons. As the mind world expands, so does its population of Proxies, representing friends and family. Memories can be arranged chronologically and linked to specific Proxies, reflecting the context and individuals involved. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds, such as Minecraft and Roblox!
Wright emphasized Proxi's focus on creating "magical connections with memories, bringing them to life." This personal approach, he explained, stems from a belief that games should deeply resonate with the player's own experiences. He humorously noted, "No game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players," suggesting that the more a game centers around the player's life, the more engaging it becomes.
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements forthcoming.
