MachineGames, the studio behind Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, has confirmed a heartwarming detail: players won't be able to harm dogs in the upcoming game. This decision marks a significant departure from the studio's previous work, such as the Wolfenstein series, known for its intense violence, including against animals.
"Indiana Jones is a dog person," explained Creative Director Jens Andersson in an interview with IGN. While the game features plenty of action and combat against human enemies, canine encounters will be handled differently. Instead of harming dogs, players will find ways to scare them off.
Andersson further elaborated, stating that the Indiana Jones IP has a family-friendly aspect, and this decision reflects their commitment to that image. The game's narrative sees Indy pursuing stolen artifacts from Marshall College, leading him on a globe-trotting adventure from the Vatican to Egyptian pyramids and even underwater temples in Sukhothai. This adventure, set in 1937 between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, will utilize Indy's whip for both traversal and combat against human foes.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle launches December 9th on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a PS5 release slated for Spring 2025. Rest assured, dog lovers, Indy's whip will remain firmly away from any four-legged friends in this exciting new adventure.
