Housemarque's Saros: Returnal Successor Coming 2026

Author : Zachary Mar 14,2025

Housemarque, the studio behind the acclaimed 2022 roguelite shooter Returnal, has unveiled its next project: Saros. Starring Rahul Kohli, this PlayStation 5 exclusive is slated for a 2026 release and will be enhanced for the PS5 Pro.

Unveiled during today's PlayStation State of Play, Saros immediately evokes the signature Housemarque style. Players take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer investigating a perilous, ever-shifting planet plagued by an eclipse and a formidable, colossal entity. The game's atmosphere and the tagline "come back stronger" strongly suggest a roguelike experience, while the fiery projectiles hint at the studio's signature bullet-hell mechanics.

PlayCreative director Gregory Louden describes *Saros* as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-focused design philosophy. While a new single-player IP, it builds upon the foundation of *Returnal*'s engaging third-person action.

However, Saros isn't simply a rehash. According to Louden on the PlayStation Blog, a key difference lies in its approach to progression. While the world dynamically changes upon player death, similar to Returnal, players will also accumulate permanent upgrades for their weapons and suits.

Housemarque promises a more extensive gameplay reveal later this year. For a complete rundown of today's PlayStation State of Play announcements, check out our comprehensive recap.
