Fortnite's Revamped Quest UI Receives Backlash
Epic Games' recent Fortnite update, introducing significant UI changes, has sparked considerable player discontent. The update, released on January 14th, included new content, cosmetics, and a controversial quest UI redesign. While the Chapter 6 Season 1 update, featuring a new map, improved movement, and new game modes like Ballistic, Fortnite OG, and LEGO Fortnite: Brick Life, has been generally well-received, the quest UI overhaul has proven unpopular.
The new quest system replaces the previous list format with collapsible blocks and submenus. Although some players find the cleaner aesthetic appealing, many criticize the increased complexity and time commitment required to navigate the menus, particularly during matches. This added time spent in menus, players argue, has led to increased vulnerability and premature eliminations, especially while tackling the new Godzilla quests.
The shift to collapsible blocks, while potentially streamlining access to quests across different game modes (previously requiring mode switching), is deemed impractical in the heat of gameplay. The need to delve through multiple submenus to locate a specific quest is a major source of frustration.
Despite this negative feedback, Epic Games' simultaneous addition of Festival instruments as pickaxes and back blings has been positively received, expanding cosmetic customization options. This positive element, however, hasn't fully mitigated the widespread dissatisfaction with the quest UI redesign. The overall sentiment within the Fortnite community remains mixed, with many players eagerly awaiting future updates and hoping for UI improvements.
