Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Director Shares Insights
No Immediate DLC Plans, but Player Demand Could Change That
In a December 13th interview on the Epic Games blog, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi revealed the team's initial decision against adding DLC to the PC release. While they considered an episodic DLC, prioritizing completion of the trilogy's final installment ultimately took precedence due to resource constraints. Hamaguchi, however, remains open to the possibility: "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them." Meaning, significant player demand could sway their decision.
A Message to the Modding Community
Hamaguchi also addressed the modding community, acknowledging the inevitable interest in modifying the PC version despite the lack of official mod support. He stated, "We respect the creativity of the modding community and welcome their creations—though we ask modders not to create or install anything offensive or inappropriate."
The potential for creative and enhancing mods is vast, ranging from new features and content to improved textures. However, Hamaguchi's request for responsible modding is understandable given the potential for inappropriate content.
PC Version Enhancements and Challenges
The PC version boasts graphical improvements, including enhanced lighting and texture resolutions, addressing previous criticisms of the uncanny valley effect in character faces. Higher-end PCs will benefit from superior 3D models and textures beyond the capabilities of the PS5.
Hamaguchi also highlighted the challenges of adapting the mini-games for PC, particularly in implementing unique key configurations.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second part of the Remake trilogy, initially launched on PS5 on February 9, 2024, to widespread acclaim. The PC version arrives on January 23, 2025, via Steam and the Epic Games Store. For more in-depth information, check out our dedicated FF7 Rebirth article!
