Rumor: Ubisoft Has Restarted Development of Project Maverick

Author : Ethan Mar 15,2025

A report from Insider Gaming reveals a complete reboot of the Alaskan extraction shooter initially codenamed Project Maverick, a title set within the Far Cry universe. Initially planned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7, internal reviews led Ubisoft to significantly alter its development. Despite positive employee and tester feedback, resource allocation shifted primarily to Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7), ultimately dismantling the multiplayer component when the technical team was reassigned.

Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio specializing in development support, now leads the project. Most of the original development team has transitioned to the next Far Cry installment.

According to insider Tom Henderson (mid-December 2024), Far Cry 7 plunges players into a desperate struggle against time. The narrative centers on the protagonist's family, kidnapped by a mysterious cult performing horrific hallucinogen experiments on animals and children. Players must rescue their loved ones within a critical 72 in-game hours (24 real-time hours), making time management a core gameplay mechanic.

A prominent feature is an in-game wristwatch timer, constantly emphasizing the urgency and pressure. This mechanic forces strategic decision-making, creating a unique experience where every second and choice holds significant weight. Far Cry 7 promises a high-stakes, time-sensitive adventure.
