Bloober Team, the studio behind the well-received Silent Hill 2 Remake, recently revealed a fascinating concept: a Lord of the Rings survival horror game. Game director Mateusz Lenart, in a recent Bonfire Conversations podcast, discussed the idea of a grim, immersive horror experience set within the dark corners of Middle-earth.
Unfortunately, the project never progressed beyond the concept stage due to the inability to secure the necessary licensing rights. Fans, however, remain enthusiastic about the potential, citing the rich source material in Tolkien's works, brimming with dark plots ideal for a tense and terrifying atmosphere.
Currently, Bloober Team's focus is on their new project, Cronos: The New Dawn, and potential future collaborations with Konami on Silent Hill titles. Whether the studio will revisit the Lord of the Rings horror concept remains uncertain, but the possibility of encountering terrifying Nazgûl or Gollum in a survival horror setting certainly sparks the imagination.
