How to Begin the Hermit Quest
The Hermit quest automatically unlocks upon completing Radovan's blacksmith quests. After recovering the lost cart, report to Radovan. He'll then request a special sword for a wedding gift, initiating the Hermit questline. Before meeting the hermit, however, you must gather information from the villagers of Troskowitz.
Gathering Information
First, visit the Troskowitz tavern and speak extensively with Innkeeper Betty. Then, converse with other villagers (such as the alehouse maid or trader) to gather additional clues.
Acquiring Evidence
Speak with Gerda in Troskowitz; she witnessed a significant event. Either pay her or succeed in a dialogue check to obtain her information. Next, talk to Stanislav in Apollonia; again, either pay or pass a dialogue check.
With this information, locate the cross Gerda mentioned. You'll need a spade (purchaseable from the Troskowitz trader or found in cemeteries) to dig up the grave, revealing Groschen, documents, and artifacts related to the Knights of the Cross. Examine these documents. Then, investigate the quest marker in Apollonia – a hut and clearing with a black horse – for your next clue.
Confronting the Hermit
Proceed to the hermit's hut. Without evidence, the hermit won't cooperate. Present your findings. Select dialogue options like "You're suspicious," exhaust all options regarding the clues, and finally, choose "Out with it!" The hermit, revealed as Konrad, will confess his true identity. He tasks you with delivering a cross to Margaret, a widow.
Go to the Apollonia cemetery, speak with Margaret, and give her the cross. This initiates the optional "Sinful Soul" quest. You can complete it immediately by assisting her or return to Konrad directly.
Choosing a Path: Aid or Betrayal
Returning to the hermit's hut, you'll encounter Crusaders. You can choose to help the Crusaders kill Konrad or aid his escape. If you choose to kill Konrad, engaging him directly is easier than fighting the Crusaders.
