Sony has donated $5 million to aid first responders, community recovery, and support programs for those impacted by the devastating wildfires currently sweeping across Southern California.
In a joint statement on X/Twitter, Sony Chairman and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida and President and COO Hiroki Totoki emphasized Los Angeles's significance as the home of Sony's entertainment business for over 35 years, pledging continued collaboration with local leaders to optimize the company's support for relief and recovery efforts.
De crisis, die op 7 januari begon, vertoont geen tekenen van afname, met drie grote bosbranden die het Greater Los Angeles -gebied blijven verwoesten. The BBC reports 24 fatalities and 23 missing persons in the two largest affected areas, with firefighters preparing for potentially worsening conditions as winds are forecast to intensify.
Sony's bijdrage maakt deel uit van een bredere bedrijfsreactie op de crisis. Other significant donations, as reported by CNBC, include $15 million from Disney, $10 million each from Netflix and Comcast, $5 million from the NFL, $2.5 million from Walmart, and $1 million from Fox, among others.
