Splatoon 3 Updates Ending Fuels Splatoon 4 SpeculationNintendo's announcement of ending regular updates for Splatoon 3 has reignited speculation about a potential Splatoon 4. While the game isn't entirely abandoned – holiday events and balance patches will continue – the end of regular content updates marks a significant shift.

Nintendo Halts Regular Splatoon 3 Updates

Splatoon 4: A Sequel on the Horizon?

Nintendo's recent announcement confirmed the end of regular content updates for Splatoon 3. However, seasonal events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, along with ongoing monthly challenges and necessary weapon adjustments. The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will come to a close. Don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue with some returning themes! Updates for weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for the time being."

This news follows the conclusion of Splatoon 3's Grand Festival event on September 16th, celebrated with a retrospective video showcasing past Splatfests. The video featured Deep Cut's final performance, with Nintendo's closing message: "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us, it's been a blast!"

With Splatoon 3's two-year anniversary recently passed and active development winding down, the anticipation for a sequel, Splatoon 4, is understandably high. Some players believe Grand Festival locations hinted at a new setting for a future game, though this remains purely speculative.

Online discussions have been buzzing with Splatoon 4 rumors for months. Previous reports suggested Nintendo had begun development on a new Splatoon title for the Switch. The Grand Festival, being the final major Splatfest, further fuels this belief, especially given the historical correlation between Final Fests and subsequent sequels. The "Past, Present, or Future" theme of past Final Fests is another point of speculation for Splatoon 4's potential direction.

While no official announcements have been made regarding Splatoon 4, the current situation strongly suggests a sequel is in the works. However, fans will need to wait for official confirmation from Nintendo.
