Resident Evil 4 Remake Sales Surpass 9 Million
Capcom's Resident Evil 4 remake continues its phenomenal success, recently surpassing 9 million copies sold. This milestone follows the game's release in March 2023 and subsequent releases like the Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition (February 2023) and an iOS version (late 2023), significantly boosting sales.
The remake's achievement is unsurprising given its rapid rise to 8 million copies sold shortly after launch. The game, a reimagining of the 2005 classic, follows Leon S. Kennedy's mission to rescue the President's daughter, Ashley Graham, from a sinister cult. Notably, this remake shifted the gameplay focus towards action, a departure from the series' survival horror origins.
The CapcomDev1 Twitter account celebrated the milestone with celebratory artwork featuring beloved characters like Ada Wong, Krauser, and Saddler enjoying a game of bingo. A recent update further enhanced the experience for PS5 Pro players.
A Record-Breaking Success
Resident Evil 4's sales trajectory is unprecedented in the franchise. According to Alex Aniel, author of "Itchy, Tasty: An Unofficial History of Resident Evil," it's the fastest-selling Resident Evil game to date. This is especially impressive considering Resident Evil Village sold only 500,000 copies in its eighth quarter.
Anticipation for Future Remakes
Given the franchise's resurgence, fans eagerly anticipate Capcom's next move. A Resident Evil 5 remake is high on many wish lists, particularly considering the relatively short timeframe (just over a year) between the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes. However, other titles like Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, both crucial to the overall storyline, are also strong contenders for a modern update. Naturally, news of a Resident Evil 9 would also be met with immense excitement.
