Author : Evelyn Apr 24,2025

Embarking on the treacherous journey through the Living Lands in *Avowed* can be daunting, but fear not—you won't be alone. With a diverse cast of Companions at your side, each boasting unique personalities and upgradable abilities, you're set for an epic adventure. Here's a detailed look at every Companion you can recruit in *Avowed*.

Kai

Kai in Avowed

Kai is your first true ally in *Avowed*, joining you early in the game at Dawnshore's port near Paradis. You'll meet him on the dock, and together you'll set off to find the Ambassador and the Cleric. Kai remains a steadfast member of your party until you recruit three Companions, after which you can swap him at a Party Camp.

As a former mercenary with a softer side, Kai serves as a tank in combat. He excels at both dealing and absorbing damage. Additionally, his fire abilities are crucial for clearing obstructions like cobwebs and roots, which can unlock hidden pathways and valuable loot.

Kai's upgradable abilities include:

  • Fire and Ire, Active: Kai unleashes a powerful shot from his blunderbuss, stunning and taunting an enemy for 10 seconds.
  • Unbending Defense, Active: Kai regenerates health and boosts his damage reduction by 25%.
  • Leap of Daring, Active: Kai executes a mighty leap, stunning and taunting nearby enemies upon landing.
  • Second Win, Passive: Upon reaching zero health, Kai revives himself, restoring 50% of his maximum health.

Marius

Marius in Avowed

Marius, another early recruit from Dawnshore, brings a different flavor to your team. You'll encounter him in a bar, where you can either persuade or fight your way through a situation with some accosting NPCs to gain his companionship.

As an expert hunter and tracker, Marius enhances your exploration with his Hunter Sense, aiding in the discovery of loot and crafting materials. In combat, he wields a bow and arrow alongside daggers and can manipulate nature to ensnare enemies with roots.

Marius's upgradable abilities include:

  • Binding Roots, Active: Marius roots an enemy in place for 8 seconds.
  • Heart Seeker, Active: Marius fires a piercing shot that always hits its target, passing through obstacles.
  • Shadow Step, Active: Marius disappears in a cloud of smoke, reappearing to slash an enemy up to three times.
  • Wounding Shots, Passive: Marius's attacks cause bleeding.

Giatta

Giatta in Avowed

Giatta joins your party later in the Emerald Stair Region at the Fior settlement. As an animancer, she practices a controversial form of magic in the Living Lands, making her crucial for solving the spiritual mysteries in the Main Quest of *Avowed*.

In combat, Giatta plays a supportive role, focusing on healing, shielding, and buffing allies rather than dealing direct damage. Her unique ability, Spectral Jolt, powers Essence Generators, which can unlock hidden pathways and reveal loot during exploration.

Giatta's upgradable abilities include:

  • Purification, Active: Giatta sends forth a wave of energy, healing all allies by 25% of their maximum health.
  • Barrier, Active: Giatta grants all allies a shield of temporary health for 20 seconds.
  • Acceleration, Active: Giatta boosts the move and attack speed of all allies for 15 seconds.
  • Reconstruction, Passive: Giatta's attacks heal all allies slightly.

Yatzli

Yatzli in Avowed

Yatzli, the final Companion, joins you in the Shatterscarp region within Thirdborn city during a main quest. Although you might encounter her earlier, she officially joins your party later.

A mage with a focus on damage, Yatzli's spells are potent, capable of both targeting single enemies and controlling crowds. Like Kai, she can use her magic to clear obstacles, making her invaluable for exploring the Living Lands.

Yatzli's upgradable abilities include:

  • Essence Explosion, Active: Yatzli unleashes an arcane explosion upon contact with an enemy, dealing explosive damage and releasing Essence.
  • Minoletta’s Missile Battery, Active: Yatzli launches a volley of arcane missiles that seek out nearby enemies.
  • Arduos Delay of Motion, Active: Yatzli manipulates arcane energy to slow an enemy for 10 seconds.
  • Blast, Passive: Yatzli's attacks create a small area of effect upon hitting an enemy.

These are all the Companions you can recruit in *Avowed*. Each brings unique skills and personalities to your journey, enhancing your experience across the Living Lands. *Avowed is now available on PC and Xbox.*
