During today's Mario Kart World Direct, we were treated to an in-depth look at the game's exciting new Free Roam mode. This mode promises to be highly engaging, especially in multiplayer, as you explore the expansive world of Mario Kart World.
Although we had the chance to go hands-on with Mario Kart World last week, it wasn't until today that we got a comprehensive overview of Free Roam mode. This innovative feature allows players to freely navigate the vast, Forza Horizon-inspired world map. Unlike previous Mario Kart games, where race tracks were isolated and only accessible during races, Mario Kart World integrates them into an open world. This means you can seamlessly drive from one track to another in specific game modes and enjoy the areas in between. When you're not competing in races, Free Roam mode offers a delightful mini-adventure. The world is filled with hidden collectibles such as coins and ? panels, though the exact benefits of collecting these items remain a mystery for now. You'll also encounter P-Switches, which, when activated, trigger small challenges like collecting blue coins.
Another highlight of Free Roam mode is the ability to enter Photo Mode at any time, allowing you to capture stunning images of your racers in various poses and angles. And the fun doesn't stop there—Free Roam is designed for multiplayer enjoyment. You and your friends can explore together, take photos, tackle challenges, or simply hang out. The mode supports up to four players on the same system via split-screen, or up to eight players through local wireless play, with two players per system.
The Mario Kart World Direct also showcased a variety of other new features, including additional characters, courses, and modes. To stay updated on all the latest announcements, be sure to check out the full coverage right here.
