Rare Mount Recolors Added to WoW, With a Twist

Summary

  • Blazing Royal Fire Hawk and Golden Ashes of Al'ar are exclusive Chinese WoW mounts, reimagined from the rare drops Pureblood Fire Hawk and Ashes of Al'ar.
  • These mounts will be available through special promotions in World of Warcraft China, starting January 15.
  • The Blazing Royal Fire Hawk features auspicious clouds, while the Golden Ashes of Al'ar honors Kael'thas Sunstrider.

World of Warcraft is set to introduce the Blazing Royal Fire Hawk and Golden Ashes of Al'ar as rewards in two exclusive promotions in China. Although these mounts are not currently available in other regions, they are new interpretations of the highly coveted Pureblood Fire Hawk and Ashes of Al'ar, which are rare drops from raid bosses.

Following the reestablishment of the partnership between NetEase and Blizzard last year, games like World of Warcraft, Diablo 4, and Overwatch 2 made a triumphant return to China. The celebration included the construction of a Lightforged Gorehowl statue and the introduction of the Xiao Liu pet with a teleportation feature.

Now, WoW China is gearing up for another exciting promotion, this time featuring revamped versions of these rare mounts. The Blazing Royal Fire Hawk and Golden Ashes of Al'ar are recolored and redesigned versions of the Pureblood Fire Hawk and Ashes of Al'ar, two of the rarest mounts in the game. These fiery birds will be available through two parallel promotions exclusive to China, starting January 15, and can be used in both modern and Classic WoW.

New Chinese World of Warcraft Promotion Mounts

  • Blazing Royal Fire Hawk
  • Golden Ashes of Al'ar

At first glance, the Blazing Royal Fire Hawk may seem identical to the Pureblood Fire Hawk, a rare drop from Ragnaros in the Firelands raid of WoW: Cataclysm. However, it features several xiangyun or "auspicious clouds" within its wings, symbolizing peace, immortality, and good fortune—a motif deeply rooted in Chinese culture for over 3000 years. The Golden Ashes of Al'ar is a gilded version of the Ashes of Al'ar, the phoenix mount dropped by Kael'thas Sunstrider in The Burning Crusade’s The Eye raid. It includes a stylish black saddle and flavor text that echoes Kael'thas's iconic line: "The golden Al'ar, beloved pet of Kael'thas Sunstrider, proves that death is merely a setback."

The Blazing Royal Fire Hawk can be obtained through an event called the Treasure Workshop, though specifics about the event remain limited. On the other hand, the Golden Ashes of Al'ar is available from Landro’s Loot Box, which costs ¥200 (approximately $27). Each box contains one of eight possible items, including other prestigious rewards such as the X-51 Nether Rocket X-TREME and the Swift Spectral Tiger, an extremely rare mount from the discontinued World of Warcraft TCG. Players can also form teams when purchasing these loot boxes, earning additional crates upon reaching certain spending milestones.

Unlike the new Xiao Liu pet in China, there is currently no indication that the Blazing Royal Fire Hawk or Golden Ashes of Al'ar will be released internationally. For now, players outside of China will have to appreciate these stunning mounts from a distance.
