Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons May Have a New Gimmick

Author : Simon Jan 06,2025

Rumors suggest the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons might have a hidden trick: they could function like computer mice. This intriguing possibility stems from recent customs data unearthed by Famiboards user LiC, who has previously revealed valuable insights into Nintendo's supply chain.

The data, obtained from a purported Nintendo parts supplier, mentions polyethylene (PE) adhesive tape described as "mouse soles"—the typical bottom of a computer mouse—intended for "game console handles." Two specific model numbers, LG7 and SML7, were referenced, though these haven't been found in public databases, suggesting potentially new components. The 90 x 90mm tape size hints at covering the entire back of the Joy-Cons, although trimming would likely be necessary.

This isn't unprecedented; Lenovo's Legion GO handheld already features a controller that can be used as a mouse when rotated. This, coupled with rumors of magnetic rails on the Switch 2 (similar to the Legion GO), adds further weight to the speculation. While the mouse functionality's widespread adoption by game developers remains uncertain, it aligns with Nintendo's history of innovative experimentation.
