Hashino, when discussing the studio's future goals, expressed interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game (JRPG), potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
While there are no current plans to create a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel, Hashino emphasized his commitment to completing the current project. He revealed the game was originally conceived as a third major JRPG series alongside Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming for it to become a flagship title for Atlus.
Despite earlier statements ruling out a direct sequel, the team is already working on their next project, which will almost certainly not be Metaphor: ReFantazio 2. However, an anime adaptation is under consideration. Metaphor: ReFantazio has already achieved significant success, marking Atlus' most successful platform launch to date.
The game boasts a peak concurrent player count exceeding 85,961, surpassing Persona 5 Royal (35,474 players) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002 players). Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
