Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 surpasses fundraising goals, raising over $2.5 million for cancer research.
The Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) 2025 event, held from January 5th to 13th, successfully raised over $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation (PCF). This impressive total exceeded the 2024 event's fundraising by more than $100,000. The annual winter speedrunning marathon featured a diverse lineup of games, including popular titles like Crazy Taxi and Super Metroid.
AGDQ, a major biannual event alongside the Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) marathon, is part of the Games Done Quick (GDQ) organization's commitment to charitable fundraising through speedrunning. GDQ also hosts smaller events throughout the year, demonstrating their ongoing dedication to various causes. Notably, a Disaster Relief Done Quick event in October 2024 raised over $45,000 for Direct Relief following Hurricane Helene.
The AGDQ 2025 event, held in Pittsburgh, kicked off with a Pikmin speedrun. The event's success significantly contributes to PCF's mission of early cancer detection, prevention, research, and community outreach. The partnership between GDQ and PCF has a long history, with over $26 million raised for the foundation through various GDQ events.
A standout moment of AGDQ 2025 was a creative Crazy Taxi speedrun. Speedrunner Chuckles825, accompanied by a live band performing covers of the game's music, successfully navigated the copyright challenges associated with the game's soundtrack. This innovative run generated over $24,000 in donations.
The event concluded with a thrilling randomized four-player Super Metroid race, showcasing the competitive spirit and entertainment value of speedrunning. GDQ will continue its fundraising efforts with Summer Games Done Quick 2025, scheduled for July 6th in Minneapolis, benefiting Doctors Without Borders.
