WoW's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration
The annual World of Warcraft Feast of Winter Veil, a digital Christmas celebration, returns with fresh rewards and items! A new lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, unveils the holiday's rich history.
This in-game event, mirroring real-world Christmas traditions, offers special rewards and activities each year, including new collectibles. This year's update includes a fascinating video exploring the event's origins.
Narrated by PlatinumWoW, the video delves into the holiday's lore, covering the Dwarven myth of Greatfather Winter—a Titan-forged giant who brings the snow—and the Tauren's traditions of reflection, renewal, and gratitude to the Earthmother. The video also highlights the modern-day commercialization of Winter Veil by Smokeywood Pastures, a Goblin enterprise, drawing parallels to real-life Christmas practices.
A History of Winter Veil in Azeroth
No Winter Veil story is complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Warcraft creative director Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer has faced three kidnappings: by pirates and Dark Iron Dwarves in Classic WoW, and by the Grinch in the current iteration. The video concludes with a humorous thank you from Metzen (voiced in Thrall's voice, a nod to Metzen's voice acting).
This isn't PlatinumWoW's first collaboration with Blizzard. Previous projects include lore videos on Nerubians, Vrykul, the Scourge, World Trees, Blackrock Depths, and guides for events like Season of Discovery and Plunderstorm. Blizzard's recent collaborations also include Taliesin & Evitel's guides for returning Dragonflight players and Hurricane's cinematic WoW Classic trailers.
Players can enjoy the Feast of Winter Veil until January 5, 2024. Hunters can tame the Dreaming Festive Reindeer, and everyone can acquire new holiday transmogs and the Grunch pet. Don't forget to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special gift!
