Choosing Your Path in Citizen Sleeper 2: A Class Comparison

Citizen Sleeper 2 presents players with three distinct starting classes: Operator, Machinist, and Extractor. The optimal choice hinges on your preferred playstyle. This guide offers a comparative analysis of each class, considering both their mechanics and roleplaying potential.

Operator

The Operator begins with a bonus to Interface, foundational levels in Intuit and Engage, and no Engineer skill. Endure is un-levelable. Their unique ability lets them trade Stress for a re-roll of their lowest die.

While powerful at higher levels, the Operator can present early-game challenges. The Interface skill is valuable, but the re-roll ability isn't a guaranteed success. Roleplaying-wise, the Operator offers versatility, fitting various character concepts.

Machinist

The Machinist starts with a bonus to Engineer, base levels in Interface and Intuit, and lacks Endure. Engage is also un-levelable. Their ability allows them to spend Stress to add +2 to their lowest die, also reducing Stress on positive outcomes. This bonus increases as the game progresses.

The Machinist proved highly effective in my playthrough, particularly due to the ability's usefulness in overcoming difficult situations. The starting skills often align with common skill check needs, mitigating crew reliance. The inherent Stress reduction is a significant advantage. Roleplaying-wise, this class suits players focused on the game's technical and mechanical aspects.

Extractor

The Extractor begins with a bonus to Endure, base levels in Engineer and Engage, and no Interface. Intuit is un-levelable. Their ability allows them to spend Stress to add +2 to their crew's lowest die, an ability that enhances with progression.

The Extractor's ability is beneficial for mitigating contract risks by boosting crew performance. The Endure bonus is valuable given the game's frequent Endure checks. However, I often found myself with crew members already proficient in Endure and Engage. Roleplaying-wise, this class is ideal for players who prefer a more physically-oriented, tough character.

This guide offers a comprehensive comparison to aid your class selection in Citizen Sleeper 2.
