Amazon's God of War TV series is generating buzz even before its premiere, with a commitment from the streaming giant for not one, but two seasons. This news comes directly from the series' new showrunner, Ronald D. Moore, who stepped in after the departure of Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus.
In a recent interview with Katee Sackhoff, his former colleague from Battlestar Galactica, Moore shared his current project. "Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of, there's a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in," he explained. "So I'm literally in the writer's room, and working on that. That's my new thing."
Moore admits he's not a gamer, though he has dabbled in classics like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. He humorously recounted his struggles with modern game controllers, saying, "'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead."
For the God of War series, Moore takes on multiple roles, including writer, executive producer, and showrunner. His impressive resume includes work on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the critically acclaimed 2000s revival of Battlestar Galactica.
Despite the changes in the production team, Sony's Cory Barlog remains involved as an executive producer. The series is set to be based on the acclaimed 2018 God of War game, though further details are still under wraps.
Amazon's quick renewals of other video game adaptations, such as the Fallout TV show and Secret Level, following their successful debuts, suggest a promising future for God of War on the streaming platform.
