World of Warcraft Delays Plunderstorm Release

Summary

  • The Plunderstorm event in World of Warcraft has been delayed due to unexpected issues.
  • No new estimated launch time has been revealed yet.
  • Players can engage in other activities in WoW while waiting for Plunderstorm.

World of Warcraft has announced a delay in the launch of the eagerly awaited second Plunderstorm event due to unforeseen challenges. Although the team at World of Warcraft is committed to launching Plunderstorm before the end of January 14, fans will need to exercise a bit more patience to dive back into the pirate-themed battle royale mode.

Introduced during the Dragonflight expansion in 2024, Plunderstorm has quickly become a fan-favorite with its unique battle royale format. The event was scheduled to return on January 14, 2025, promising both the original rewards and exciting new ones for World of Warcraft players to collect.

Unfortunately, the rollout of Plunderstorm has hit some snags. The event's maintenance, initially planned for six hours, was extended to eight hours, with servers expected to be up by 3 PM PST. However, as revealed by WoW community manager Kaivax in a forum post during this extension, "unexpected issues" have further delayed the launch. While the goal remains to have Plunderstorm live before the end of January 14, a specific time frame has not been provided.

When is Plunderstorm Live in World of Warcraft?

  • Before the end of January 14, once the "unexpected issues" are resolved

In the meantime, World of Warcraft has successfully restored its normal servers, allowing players to continue enjoying the game. Those waiting for Plunderstorm can log in to complete their Siren Isle weeklies, participate in the second week of the Turbulent Timeways event, or explore other activities in The War Within.

The second iteration of Plunderstorm introduces new elements like the Plunderstore and an accessible in-game event interface. These additions might be the cause of the unexpected issues, and the World of Warcraft team is working diligently to resolve them so players can get back to plundering soon.

Despite the delay, the new Plunderstorm Twitch Drops campaign is already underway. By watching four hours of any Twitch stream in the World of Warcraft category before February 4 at 10 AM PST, players can earn the Coward’s Azure Target back transmog. Notably, the streamer does not need to be playing Plunderstorm for viewers to make progress toward this reward, providing fans with an opportunity to earn something new while awaiting the event's launch.
