Sony has recently provided an update on the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes for the PS5, along with news on the future of themes for the console. In a tweet, Sony announced that these beloved nostalgia themes will be removed from the PS5 tomorrow, January 31, 2025. However, there’s good news for fans: Sony has promised that these themes will make a comeback in the future.
“Thank you for the fantastic response to the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes, which will be leaving tomorrow,” Sony stated. “Due to the positive response on these 4 themes, we’re doing some work behind the scenes to bring these special designs back in the months ahead.”

Unfortunately, there's also some disappointing news. In a subsequent tweet, Sony clarified that there are no plans to introduce new themes for the PS5. The statement read, “While there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future, we're excited to keep celebrating legacy PlayStation hardware with you all.”
This announcement has led to a wave of disappointment among fans, as themes have been a cherished feature in previous PlayStation consoles. Sony has yet to implement themes on the PS5, and it appears this won't change for the current console generation.
The nostalgia themes, introduced to celebrate the 30th anniversary of PlayStation on December 3, 2024, allowed PS5 users to customize their home screen and menus with designs inspired by the PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4. The PSOne theme features the iconic console on the home screen background, the PS2 theme incorporates its distinctive menu shapes, the PS3 theme includes its wave background, and the PS4 theme showcases similar wave patterns. Each theme also includes the unique sound effects of the respective consoles, adding an extra layer of nostalgia for users.
