Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Review by Mark Knapp

"The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is an incredibly versatile, elegant, and powerful phone. It should stand out as the best Samsung has to offer, but after years of iteration on this device and a price tag that sets it certainly above many of its competitors (except Apple), the Galaxy S25 Ultra frequently had me asking, “is this the best Samsung can do?” Samsung’s displays, once the best, now have little to stand out from the many excellent competitors. The phone’s performance may top the charts briefly, but quickly sinks below the competition in sustained usage. And even the technically impressive cameras fail to offer the character that might make them lovable. Samsung really needed near-perfection this year, and all it delivered was greatness."

A Samsung Galaxy S25 "Edge" May Be Coming Later

At the end of its Galaxy Unpacked presentation, Samsung teased a potential slimmer "Edge" smartphone. While we only saw a brief glimpse, no additional details were shared, leaving us in the dark about its placement in the Galaxy S25 lineup and its release date.

Samsung Galaxy AI

AI integration has been a highlight at CES 2025, and Samsung is no exception with its Galaxy AI. While AI in smartphones is still evolving, Samsung's approach ensures that many features are backward compatible with older models, though newer models will better handle more demanding tasks.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Was the Best Phone of 2024

The Galaxy S24 Ultra was crowned our favorite Android phone of 2024. In our review, Jacqueline Thomas praised it as "an incredible smartphone. It might look like yet another Galaxy device, but its titanium chassis and powerful processor make this a durable gaming phone that can outrace the best of them."

The Galaxy S24 Plus also earned high marks. Mark Knapp's review stated, "The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the best Android phone you can buy right now, but at $1,299, it really needs to be. This is not only the fastest gaming phone you can buy today, but with its premium titanium chassis, it might just be the most durable. Samsung is sweetening the deal a bit by adding a huge variety of AI tools, but many of them will probably be forgotten after you've been using the phone for a while. Still, don't let that get you down: If you want a premium Android phone in 2024, it's hard to imagine getting anything else."
