Forget everything you think you know about MMORPGs – *Rune Slayer* has fishing, and that’s the ultimate proof! This guide will walk you through the surprisingly non-intuitive process of catching fish in *Rune Slayer*. Trust us, we struggled too, but now we're here to share the secrets.

Before you even think about reeling in a catch, you'll need to accept a fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman (the white-haired NPC near the pier where the Barracuda swim). He'll ask you to catch five "fish"—and yes, those quotation marks are important, as you'll soon see. In return for your aquatic endeavors, he'll reward you with a handy Tackle Box.

To catch these "fish," you'll need a fishing rod and bait. Conveniently, Simon sells both. Grab a Wood Fishing Rod and at least five Worms (we recommend ten, just to be safe). Important note: you don't equip the bait; simply having the Worms in your inventory is key. Each successful catch (or even unsuccessful one!) will automatically consume one worm.
Here's the crucial detail: you need *at least* five worms in your inventory to catch anything. We tried with just one, and it didn't work. Keep your Worms in your hotbar for easy tracking.
How to catch fish in Rune Slayer
--------------------------------
Select your Wood Fishing Rod (you don't equip it; just having it in your hotbar is enough). Cast your line (hold M1) into the water near Simon. Watch the bobber—when it ripples (once or twice), click M1 again to reel in your catch.
Important: This isn't foolproof. You'll often catch nothing, or you might reel in junk. The good news is, Simon counts junk as a "fish" towards your quest completion (hence the quotation marks!).
Simply cast, wait for the ripples, click M1 to reel, and repeat until you've caught five "fish" (even if they're Old Cups).

Once you have five catches, return to Simon to complete the quest and receive your Tackle Box. Store your remaining worms in the box to free up valuable inventory space. And that’s it! Happy fishing! For more *Rune Slayer* tips and tricks, check out our Ultimate Beginner's Guide.
