Niantic has announced the Pokémon GO Lunar New Year 2025 event, starting January 29th, offering players chances to catch Lucky Pokémon, Shiny Pokémon, and other exciting rewards. Similar to the Fashion Week event, completing Field Research tasks yields bonus rewards.
Pokémon GO's ninth anniversary in 2025 will see numerous events and updates leading up to the summer and Pokémon GO Fest, including Pokémon GO Tour: Unova (February 21st-23rd in Los Angeles and New Taipei City, and globally in March). The Lunar New Year event provides a chance to add new Pokémon to your collection before the Unova event.

Wild encounters with Ekans, Onix, Snivy, Darumaka, Dunsparce, Gyarados, and Dratini will be more frequent, including Shiny variants. Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi will hatch from 2 km Eggs.

- Makuhita, Nosepass, Meditite, Duskull, and Skorupi hatching from 2 km Eggs.
- Rewards: Timed Research, Field Research, and Routes will reward Stardust, XP, Zygarde Cells, and Pokémon encounters. A paid Timed Research ($2) offers additional rewards including two Lucky Eggs and an incubator.
