Genki's CES 2025 Switch 2 Mockup Reveals Key Features
Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, showcased a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key features. Based on a reportedly black-market acquired unit, the mockup accurately reflects the console's dimensions, highlighting a larger size approaching the Valve Steam Deck.
Key features confirmed by Genki CEO Eddie Tsai include magnetic Joy-Con controllers, featuring SL and SR buttons with magnetic detachment mechanisms. These mechanisms utilize pins released by buttons on each Joy-Con to disengage the magnetic connection. Despite the magnetic design, Tsai assures users of secure Joy-Con attachment during gameplay.

Furthermore, the Joy-Con incorporate optical sensors within their mounting channels, suggesting potential functionality as mouse peripherals via a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked Switch 2 images appear to corroborate the presence of these sensors.
While the Switch 2 is slim enough to physically fit within the existing Switch dock, design differences render it incompatible. The mystery surrounding a new "C" button and an additional USB-C port remains unsolved. Genki's demonstration provided valuable insights into the upcoming console's design and functionality, generating further excitement for its release.
