NieR: Automata's world extends beyond the Android-Machine conflict, offering peaceful diversions like fishing. This optional activity can be skipped entirely, but it provides a low-risk method for acquiring rare items and quick cash. Unlike combat, fishing doesn't require resource expenditure.
This guide explains how to fish and what rewards await.
How To Fish In NieR: Automata
Fishing is possible in almost any body of water, even shallow areas. Stand still in the water; a fishing prompt will appear above your character. Holding the button initiates the fishing mini-game. A single button controls casting and reeling:
- O on PlayStation
- B on Xbox
- Enter on PC
After casting, wait for the pod to be pulled underwater with a distinct "plop." Quickly press the reel-in button. Reaction time is crucial; a delayed response results in a lost catch. You can cast repeatedly without limitations.
A plugin chip displays a fishing icon in the top-right corner when fishing is possible.
Rewards For Fishing In NieR: Automata
Most fish and junk items acquired through fishing are valuable commodities. Selling these provides a safe and efficient way to earn money early in the game, particularly for expanding plugin chip capacity. Sewers offer a chance to obtain the Iron Pipe, a potentially powerful weapon depending on your luck.
