Daredevil's highly anticipated next season is on the horizon, and the creative team is already brainstorming future possibilities, including a potential Defenders reunion.
In a recent EW profile, Brad Winderbaum, head of streaming and TV at Marvel Studios, expressed keen interest in reuniting the street-level heroes of Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist—the Defenders.
While nothing is confirmed, Winderbaum stated to EW, "The potential to work within that established universe is incredibly exciting... However, unlike comic books where creative limitations are minimal, we're bound by factors such as actor availability, scheduling, and the immense production scale required to build a cinematic universe, especially for television."
He continued, "Considering all these variables, the creative possibilities are extremely compelling, and we're actively exploring them."
We know that Daredevil: Born Again will directly continue the Netflix Daredevil storyline. Netflix previously hosted its own smaller-scale Marvel universe featuring Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage. Winderbaum's comments suggest that Daredevil: Born Again could serve as a springboard to revive these characters within Disney's MCU framework on Disney+. The inclusion of Jon Bernthal's Punisher in the new season already demonstrates the successful transition of a Netflix character.
For now, we await the March 4th premiere of Daredevil: Born Again before further speculating on its potential connections to the broader MCU.
