Street Fighter 6, Capcom's hit fighting game, continues to attract players with its latest addition: Mai Shiranui from the Fatal Fury series. Having sold 4.4 million copies by December 31, 2024, the game has seen a resurgence in popularity thanks to this new fighter. While some fans felt content updates were slow, Mai Shiranui's arrival as the third Season 2 character significantly boosted player numbers. Steam's peak online player count soared past 63,000 on her release day—a considerable increase from the previous peak of 24-27,000 and the best result since May 2024.
Accessible to Battle Pass holders, Mai Shiranui offers more than just combat. World Tour mode allows players to cultivate a relationship with her, learning her moves before testing them in Battle Hub. A second costume, inspired by her appearance in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, has also been added.
Further enhancing the Battle Hub experience, Professor Woshige, a renowned fighting game developer, is a temporary guest character available until March 10th. The update also includes new Master League ranks and rewards. Capcom showcased Mai Shiranui's impressive fighting techniques in a dedicated trailer.
