Love and Deepspace is enhancing its security measures in China with the introduction of a face verification system, launching in April 2025. This may sound stringent, but it's directly linked to existing Chinese regulations.
Why the Face Verification in China?
China mandates real-name authentication for online games, particularly those rated 18+, like Love and Deepspace in that region. This new system aims to prevent underage players from accessing the game, aligning with the country's Minors’ Protection Law and its ongoing efforts to combat gaming addiction among minors. These efforts include playtime restrictions (90 minutes on weekdays, three hours on weekends) and mandatory "Healthy Gaming Advice" prompts. Facial recognition technology is already widely used in China for various security applications, including airports and banks.
Global Impact?
For players outside of China, this change is unlikely to affect gameplay. The face verification system is specifically implemented to comply with Chinese regulations. As Love and Deepspace maintains a 12+ rating in most global app stores, there are no current plans to introduce similar verification measures internationally.
