League of Legends is bringing back Hextech Chests after receiving fan feedback. Read on to discover more about the upcoming update and what's next for LoL.
League of Legends Reverses Unpopular Changes
Hextech Chests Are Returning
League of Legends (LoL) is set to reintroduce Hextech Chests following extensive fan feedback. Riot Games released a detailed developer update on February 27, 2025, on their official website, accompanied by a video on their YouTube channel.LoL acknowledged that their recent changes did not meet fan expectations, stating, "Recently, we’ve made several changes that didn’t resonate with everyone. We’ve listened to your feedback, and it’s evident we need to make adjustments."
One of the most requested reversals was the return of Hextech Chests. LoL recognized their importance, saying, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests were more than just rewards; they were a crucial part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We underestimated how much this mattered to you, leading to changes that missed the mark."
Starting with patch 25.05, Hextech Chests will return, allowing players to earn up to 10 chests and keys per act. Eight of these chests will be available through the free pass, with the remaining two obtainable via the Honor system.
Exalted Mordekaiser Delayed and More Changes Based on Fan Feedback
Riot Games has also announced a delay for the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, as the team aims to "take more time to ensure it better delivers on its core fantasy." Consequently, the entire Exalted skin line will be postponed, meaning fans won't see a new skin in every Act this year as initially planned.
In response to additional fan feedback, LoL will "replace one of the non-Prestige skins with 25 Mythic Essence," acknowledging the community's concerns about the lack of Mythic Essence on the paid Pass and the excessive number of champions for each seasonal theme.
To enhance player accessibility to champions, LoL will "lower the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% as of patch 25.05," following recent discussions about blue essence and champion shards.
Another reversal concerns Clash. After previously stating they would run Clash less frequently, LoL has decided to reinstate the monthly schedule, announcing, "March’s Clash event will be ARURF, followed by a regular SR Clash in April."
Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Return
Responding to fan requests, LoL will also bring back popular shops. Your Shop and the Blue Essence Emporium are set to return for their first runs this year, with Your Shop scheduled for patch 25.06 and the Emporium for 25.07.
Riot Games emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We believe today’s updates are a significant step, and we’ll keep monitoring how these changes are received, engaging with you about their impact, and making necessary adjustments."
With their recent actions, Riot Games demonstrates a dedication to listening to their fans and adapting the game to better suit their audience. League of Legends remains available for free-to-play on PC. For the latest updates on the game, visit our League of Legends page.
