Square Enix and Tencent Tease Potential FFXIV Mobile Game
Recent reports from Niko Partners, a leading video game market research firm, suggest a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV is in the works, a joint venture between Square Enix and Tencent. This revelation emerged from a list of games approved for release in China by the National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA). The list also includes mobile and PC versions of Rainbow Six, two Marvel-based games (Marvel Snap and Marvel Rivals), and a Dynasty Warriors 8 mobile title.
While the news is exciting, it's crucial to note that official confirmation from Square Enix or Tencent is still pending. Industry analyst Daniel Ahmad, writing on X (formerly Twitter), indicated the mobile FFXIV game is anticipated to be a standalone MMORPG, distinct from the PC version. However, he emphasized that this information stems largely from industry speculation.
This potential partnership aligns with Square Enix's recently announced strategy of aggressively pursuing multi-platform releases for its key franchises, including Final Fantasy. Given Tencent's significant presence in the mobile gaming market, this collaboration could represent a major step in expanding the reach of the Final Fantasy XIV universe. However, until an official announcement is made, the existence of this mobile game remains unconfirmed.
