In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Hans's main quest, "For Whom the Bell Tolls," requires crafting a Fever Tonic to help someone at Trosky Castle. Here's how to obtain the recipe and brew the tonic:
Locating the Fever Tonic Recipe:
The recipe is located within the Surgeon's Workshop in Trosky Castle. Access can be gained through stealth or persuasion:
- Stealth: Sneak into the workshop.
- Persuasion: Complete the "For Whom the Bell Tolls" objectives up to delivering the horseshoe. Then, speak with Cook Fanka at the forge. Offer to help with her locked chest; she'll lead you to the noble's kitchen. Convince the ailing Chamberlain you can help him (skill checks involved) to gain access to the workshop. Crafting a Digestive Potion alongside the Fever Tonic will further improve your chances.
If persuasion fails, steal food, leave the kitchen, and use another set of stairs leading to a guarded kitchen. Bribe the guard with the stolen food, then sneak upstairs to the Surgeon's Workshop.
The Surgeon's journal, containing the recipe, is on the bookshelf.
Brewing the Fever Tonic:
The necessary herbs are already at the surgeon's station. Follow these steps:
- Pour wine into the cauldron.
- Add 3 handfuls of Feverfew.
- Lower the heat and boil for 2 turns of the sandglass.
- Grind a handful of Elderberry Leaves.
- Add the ground Elderberry Leaves.
- Add 2 handfuls of Ginger.
- Obtain a phial from the bottom-left shelf.
- Distill the tonic using the Still.
Additional herbs are available in the chest if needed.
Completing the Quest:
After brewing the Fever Tonic, deliver it to Thomas. If you gained the Chamberlain's trust, bring both the Fever Tonic and the Digestive Potion. Otherwise, use the noble's kitchen to sneak to the chapel and find Thomas and his sister, Adele. Speak with Adele to conclude the quest.
