According to Deadline, the previously shelved Warner Bros. film Coyote vs. Acme might finally make its way to audiences. The Los Angeles-based independent film production and distribution company, Ketchup Entertainment, is reportedly in deep negotiations to acquire the completed movie. Although the deal is not finalized, a theatrical release is anticipated for 2026 if the negotiations succeed.
Coyote vs. Acme, announced in 2022, draws its inspiration from a 1990 New Yorker article by Ian Frazier. The screenplay was co-written by James Gunn, and the film features Will Forte and John Cena. Originally slated for a mid-2023 release on Max, the project was unfortunately shelved despite being fully filmed. Since then, a dedicated campaign has been working tirelessly to revive the movie.
Ketchup Entertainment, known for rescuing Warner Bros.' The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie from a similar fate, has a track record of saving promising films. Their intervention allowed The Day the Earth Blew Up to secure a theatrical release in the US, marking it as the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie to hit the big screen. IGN's review praised it as a "laugh-out-loud riot."
Ketchup Entertainment's portfolio also includes notable releases such as Hellboy: The Crooked Man and Robert Rodriguez's thriller Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck. Additionally, they co-produced Michael Mann's 2023 Ferrari biopic, showcasing their commitment to diverse and quality cinematic projects.
