The open-world vampire RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, developed by former CD Projekt Red (CDPR) developers, is setting its sights on delivering a quality experience comparable to The Witcher 3, albeit in a more compact form. Dive deeper into what this upcoming game has in store and hear directly from its creators.
The Blood Of Dawnwalker Aims For AAA Quality
30-40 Hour Main Campaign
In an interview with Games Radar, The Blood of Dawnwalker's creative director, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, revealed that despite being a smaller studio embarking on their inaugural project, the team is committed to achieving a level of excellence reminiscent of CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3.
When discussing the nuanced space between indie and AAA games, Tomaszkiewicz was clear about their ambitions: "In terms of quality, we definitely look at AAA, because this is where we are coming from, the quality level of The Witcher 3," he emphasized. This statement underscores the studio's high aspirations.
Although Rebel Wolves is a new name in the gaming industry, its team is far from novice. Comprised of former CDPR developers who contributed to The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, the staff at Rebel Wolves brings a wealth of experience. Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, along with his brother Konrad, founded the studio to explore more creative freedom in game development, free from the typical constraints of a large AAA studio like CDPR.
"Our games are not as vast in terms of content and gameplay hours - we are a smaller studio, and this is our first project, so we are definitely building something smaller. But we aim to create something equally robust in terms of quality, perhaps a bit shorter," Tomaszkiewicz explained. He noted that The Blood of Dawnwalker's main campaign is targeted to last between 30 to 40 hours, which, while shorter than typical AAA titles, still promises a substantial experience. "If size is your measure, then yes, it's not the size of a AAA like The Witcher. But I don't know if size is the only measure, because there are AAA games like Call of Duty that don't offer 100+ hours of gameplay. And I doubt anyone would categorize them as AA or indie."
Set in the mystical land of Vale Sangora, The Blood of Dawnwalker is a narrative-driven, open-world dark fantasy RPG where players control Coen, a young peasant who gains vampiric powers after an encounter with one of the land's most formidable vampires. Driven by the need to save his sister from a deadly illness, Coen embarks on a perilous journey, navigating the dark and hostile world around him.
While an exact release date has not been announced, The Blood of Dawnwalker is planned for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Fans can look forward to a gameplay reveal in Summer 2025.
