Annapurna Interactive's mass resignation leaves some game projects unaffected
Annapurna Interactive recently experienced a significant staff exodus, raising concerns about the future of its upcoming games. However, several titles, including Control 2 and Wanderstop, appear unaffected.
Control 2, Wanderstop, and More Remain on Track
Following the mass resignation, developers working with Annapurna Interactive have confirmed that some projects are continuing as planned. Initial reports from Bloomberg News highlighted the chaos caused by the departures, as developers scrambled to maintain communication and ensure contractual agreements remained valid.
Remedy Entertainment, the developer of Control 2, swiftly clarified on Twitter (now X) that their agreement for Control 2, including Alan Wake and Control AV rights, is with Annapurna Pictures, and that Remedy is self-publishing Control 2, thus insulating the game from the publisher's internal issues.
Davey Wreden (The Stanley Parable) and Team Ivy Road, the creators of Wanderstop, similarly reassured fans that development is progressing without interruption. Wreden expressed confidence in a soon release, while Team Ivy Road acknowledged the unexpected setback but confirmed continued development.
Matt Newell's Lushfoil Photography Sim, nearing completion, also seems unaffected, though the team expressed gratitude for their positive experience working with Annapurna Interactive. They committed to providing updates.
Beethoven & Dinosaur, the developers of The Artful Escape, also confirmed the ongoing development of their anticipated title, Mixtape.
Uncertainty Remains for Other Projects
Conversely, the status of several other games remains unclear. Developers of titles like No Code's Silent Hill: Downfall, Furcula's Morsels, Great Ape Games' The Lost Wild, Dinogod's Bounty Star, and Annapurna Interactive's internally developed Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth, have yet to provide public updates.
Annapurna Pictures CEO Megan Ellison assured Bloomberg of continued support for their partners during this transition. While many developers express optimism, the long-term impact of Annapurna Interactive's collapse on these games remains uncertain.
Annapurna Interactive's Mass Resignation
The mass resignation of Annapurna Interactive's 25-person team followed failed negotiations for the studio's independence. This followed the departure of former president Nathan Gary. The team cited disagreements regarding the studio's future direction. Despite this, Annapurna Pictures remains committed to interactive entertainment.
